Nutrition
Nutrition plays an integral role in keeping older adults safe, healthy, active, and connected with their community so they are able to live in their own home for as long as possible. Lack of proper nutrition can limit strength, stamina, and mobility which may increase the risk of falls.
The goal of the Nutrition Program is to provide congregate and home-delivered meals to assist seniors to live independently by promoting better health through improved nutrition. It also provides other services such as transportation, nutrition education, and socialization opportunities.
- Meals provide 1/3 the daily recommended dietary allowances, and are served and delivered each weekday. Transportation to the congregate site is available. Volunteers provide a friendly visit and safety check for isolated seniors with Home Delivered Meals.
- Meal reservations are needed by noon the business day before you plan to attend a meal or a week ahead of special events such as holiday and birthday lunches.
- The total cost to provide a meal for you at the Center is $13.56. Those ages 60 and over are encouraged to contribute a minimum of $5.00 toward the full cost of the meal, based on all they can afford. Those under 60 years old are always welcome to join us for lunch at the full cost.
Congregate Meals
The Center serves as a Dane County Senior Nutrition site. Meals are nutritious and delicious! Reservations are required by noon, one business day prior by calling the Center. On Wednesdays, MyMeal MyWay is available at the DeForest Family Restaurant between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. Order a meal from our special menu. Reservations are not required, simply come to the restaurant.
Transportation is available (for those who qualify) to both the Center and DeForest Family Restaurant when participating in our Nutrition programs.
Home Delivered Meals
Our Home Delivered Meal program offers delivery of a meal to individuals who meet certain criteria established by the Dane County Department of Human Services. This program helps seniors live independently by providing 1/3 of the daily recommended nutrition to people in their homes.
Volunteers provide a friendly visit and safety check for those that are not able to come to the Center Monday-Friday at noon. These meals play a role in promoting health, decreasing the risk of chronic disease and maintaining functionality. Please contact a case manager or the nutrition coordinator to see if you qualify.
